we exist
The Chain of International Solidarity ENFANTS DE LA RUE was created in 1997 by Nicky VAN ASS with the purpose of helping children living in poverty in Antananarivo and its surroundings, by enabling them to go to school and get an appropriate education. In 2017, we will celebrate our 20 years of existence ... During these years, we have had 4 Presidents and went through 2 crises. And yet, we are still here ... Our kind contributors, who have been with us through all this time, trusting us blindly, have helped us to hold on and stand where we are today;) We are very grateful to these good-hearted people.... The sponsorship is 60€ per year ... It’s not even the price for a romantic dinner with some wine in a restaurant here!! 60€ PER YEAR to ensure a poor child a different future and make him forget the misery that surrounds him ... Are you willing to support us? Are you sensitive to our cause? If so, join our Chain and be one of its links by becoming a godmother or godfather!

The Chain of International Solidarity ENFANTS DE LA RUE is a humanitarian not-for-profit organization governed by Order No. 60-133 of October 3rd, 1960. EDLR obtained a legal status from the government of Madagascar in 2000 via the Ministerial Order No. 1408/2000 – Receipt No. 04 74/MI/SG/DAT/AP/ASS. The history of the Chain of Solidarity started some 20 years ago, when our Founding President set foot on Malagasy soil… Upon arrival she was deeply touched by the smile and kindness of the Malagasy people, but especially by the poverty of the children she met. She could not remain insensitive to such great misery. This is how the Chain came into being with an innovative and unfamiliar sponsorship scheme!! Our Founding President had a wonderful dream of creating a remedial center called “Zazagasy”, which literally means “Malagasy children”. Unfortunately, the political events we went through put an end to the dream of building the center, as all the people designated to carry the work had left the country! We decided to support an already existing school – charmingly named “L’Ecole de l’Espérance” , located in Ambohipeno in the rural commune of Ambohimanambola, Antananarivo Avaradrano. We made an extension of the school by constructing two buildings: the first one has four classrooms and a courtyard and the second one has two rooms serving as a library and an infirmary, and also four latrines and a well with a water tower. The new buildings were inaugurated in October 29th, 2014 in the presence of the local Mayor and other officials. We still have to furnish and stock the library. And this summer we have built a superb basketball court!!

Pursuant to Article 17 of its Statutes of July 15th, 2009 amending those of March 10th, 1999, the Chain of Solidarity is administered by a Board of Directors consisting of 3 to 12 members.

In almost 20 years of existence, over 4,000 children had the joy of embracing a different future.
We are proud to announce that 14 children from EDLR are now university students…
Owing to our joint efforts, we had the great joy of sending more children to school. But still this is not enough; poverty remains predominant…..
We still need your support!!
Do you want to help our children live not survive? Do you want to give hope to children who don’t have the privilege of having been born in a rich country?
Do you want to offer them a better future?
Let’s stand together and live our motto: “To make education a reality for all children!”
If you decide to take a Malagasy child by the hand to lift him out of dire poverty onto the path of success, you will experience a sense of joy and pride.

Apart from its main activity, the Chain of International Solidarity ENFANTS DE LA RUE has raised funds to set up a reception center called « Zazagasy », which literally means « Malagasy children, for underpriviledged children.
The center was ultimately not set up due to the 2009 events!
Nevertheless we carried out this beautiful project by providing support to an already existing school – charmingly named “L’Ecole de l’Espérance” – located in Ambohipeno in the rural commune of Ambohimanambola, Antananarivo Avaradrano. We made an extension of the school by constructing two buildings: the first one has four classrooms and a courtyard and the second one has two rooms serving as a library and an infirmary, and also four latrines and a well with a water tower. And we also built a sport court this year!!
We experienced an unforgettable day on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014, when we inaugurated our Zazagasy Project in the presence of the local Mayor and officials and our team!!
The donations collected since 1997 enabled us to finish the works and furnish the classrooms, but we still have to stock the library and the infirmary!
Therefore we call on your generosity and participation through either in-kind donations or financial assistance.
We are deeply grateful in advance for your support, no matter how small.

Because children’s education is the foundation for a poor country’s development!!
By providing health care and addressing the basic needs of children from our poor families, our main objective is to empower these children and their families so that they will be able to improve their living conditions by their knowledge....
In addition to our motto “Let’s act to make education a reality for all children”, we are convinced that if we want to live happily, we must travel with two bags, one to give and the other to receive ...
And we think that if the whole world applied the true meaning of this journey, we could reduce somewhat the misery that hurts our eyes so much!!
Let’s spread love and happiness with us, then poverty will be gradually reduced...
On the picture, one of our Ambassadors and very dear friend Délicie Rasolofomanana, the guardian angel of “Enfants de la Rue”, who is always right there whenever we need help!
